Recording available for ACP, Annals of Internal Medicine forum on protecting patients from misinformation
The session explored how misleading social media “cures,” dangerous remedies, and questionable advice about medications, food, and supplements can complicate clinical conversations.
ACP and Annals of Internal Medicine presented “Talking with Patients About Mis- and Disinformation” on Wednesday, Dec. 3. This virtual live forum for ACP members and Annals subscribers featured expert panelists who discussed the increasingly complex landscape physicians face as patients bring health misinformation into the exam room. The session explored how misleading social media “cures,” dangerous remedies, and questionable advice about medications, food, and supplements can conflict with evidence-based medical science and complicate clinical conversations.
ACP's Chief Executive Officer, Darilyn Moyer, MD, MACP, moderated the forum. Panelists included Helen Burstin, MD, MPH; Kimberly D. Manning, MD, MACP; and Megan L. Ranney, MD, MPH.
A full recording of the forum was published by Annals on Tuesday, Dec. 9.
